Dave - Psychodrama
Dave’s skills on the mic are a level above at the moment. His flow is perfect, especially considering how wild some of the beats are on this album.
The opening track “Psycho” switches up the beat so many times and he just rides it perfectly. I understand that this is an album and the effort should be top notch but this entire album is so polished. All the beats are so nice. You can literally throw them under trap or grime It’s impossible to be specific but we’re definitely getting the nicest cross over from Grime I can remember.
We’d heard the track “Black” as the single which might be the best beat I’ve heard in hip hop. The strings like wow.
The production on this album is amazing. There’s nothing simple about any of the beats on here and everyone hits them perfectly. Burna Boy hits the drop soo hard on “Location”. J Hus and Dave’s back and forth on “Disaster” is perfect. Nearly as tight as Dave and AJ’s “Thiago Silva”.
All the beats seem to switch it up, there’s nothing boring on this album. “Screwface Capital” sounds like it’s about to get super heavy halfway through then it just dives into some super pretty synths and keys and minimal drums before going back to the start of the beat.
Easily the most interesting track on this album is “Lesley”. It’s 11 minutes long. I have no idea if this story is real, but either way some of the best writing in music probably ever. The keys and production is crazy. The strings are perfect. It’s a heavy story for sure and it’s mind blowing there’s someone writing songs like this at 20 years old. The switch up at the end is so powerful.
This isn’t a stretch but this is the best album I’ve heard in a very long time. The dudes 20, This is insane.
