Swindle - No More Normal (Album)
What a step from Swindle. This album is gorgeous. Everyone from Deep Medi seems to just stretch their wings and do some very serious things. Swindle started making his clout early on as a dubstep producer. His track “Do The Jazz” came out on Deep Medi and he kind of exploded in the dance scene. The claps in the mixdown are historic.
He went on to play keys for Mala when Mala did a live tour of his Brownswood Recordings album “Mala In Cuba” and that’s when I really started hearing waves about Swindle in the industry. He started to get a bit grimier in his sound and started doing some really special tracks with some of the UK’s best MC’s and producers. His beats and production has always sounded a bit less electronic then most dubstep producers. He’s definitely had his own sound for a while. His track “Ignition” with Footsie and Nadia Suliman was when I really started listening to him outside of the dance vibe. The tracks got the wobbles but it’s just nice in some other way.
No More Normal is insane to me. The musicians used throughout this entire album are incredible. The strings and horns are so clean. Swindles key work is always top notch. I know the guy is incredible on the trumpet as well but I really have no idea how much of these beats is all Swindle. The first track is a great culmination of the entire album. From grimey, dubsteppy basslines and beats to proper instrumental production. This album is must listen, Must have.
