Chip - Ten10 (Album)
Chips been doing this work for nearly 15 years now and to this day he’s still only 27 years old. I can’t even rap my head around that. He did his pop music thing but it never really took off and it never really suited him anyway. Since his return Grime has been just doing so much better.
His beef with Bugzy Malone was probably one of the most exciting periods grime went through in half a decade and it felt like the scene was truly legitimate again. The two went back and forth for over ten tracks and all of them super entertaining. Chip bringing the jokes and Bugzy bringing the ferocity.
Then when Ice Kid finally made a return with his seminal flow the first video he put out had Chip in it and they both brought pure heat. It was like they both never disappeared.
In the same year we then saw Chip start doing work with Stormzy and doing the Grime thing on “Hear Dis”
Jumping on tracks with the 67 guys for “Honestly”
Then earlier this year doing the Remix of Ambush’s “Jumpy” (Absolutely shuts parties down, Love this track).
So I write this back story I guess to try and give some insight into how diverse this album is.
This isn’t a one Genre album and really show’s how diverse of an artist Chip has really become.
This isn’t just Trap, Grime, Rap or Dance music.
This is a bit of everything. His track with Not3s “Crb Check” is vibey as fuck. Proper get the girls moving in the club kind of music.
Then he has proper tough bars and production on his track “Right Now” and Jme and Frisco really do work on this beat.
This album is really proof that Chip has been working hard for the past decade. He’s really an artist who just likes creating what he’s feeling and his grasp of who to feature on tracks and beats is perfect. He know’s how to spit some more serious bars and his beat choice is always so nice for the tracks where he wants us to listen.
My favourite track on hear is Darth Vader for sure. He really did work on this production from Lil Silva and Sampha. Solid flow and just fills the space on this beat. It’s not noisy. It’s just clean.
I’ve got some serious bias for MC’s who do tracks with no hook or chorus though.
This album’s great. If I could get my hands on some Vinyl of it It’d be on the shelf for sure.
This is the kind of music that will last forever. It’s been a big few years for Chip and this is a great showcase of his diversity.
