Jay Rock - Redemption
Not much for long form write ups but the new Jay Rock album seems to have flown under the radar with all the new music appearing in the past two weeks.
This entire album is actually really solid and is probably my favourite of the stack that got thrown at us in the last few weeks. It opens really strong and I'm happy Jay put a vid together for the opening track because it's the right way to introduce an album.
The fucking beats are sooo hard. I haven't spent the time to go through the production credits but every track has this muddy banging 808 that Jay always murders.
It's a gimme that the biggest track on the album is going to be King's Dead. Not just because it has Future on it. It also claps fucking hard. It's probably one of my favourite tracks this year. The film clip came out ages ago along with the single and It already has a stack of views but no where near as much as it should. The flow switch ups that Jay has on this tune are so sick and the beat is so solid everyone seems to know what to do with it in their own way. One of the best sounding rimshots on a track in as long as I can remember.
Don't sleep on this album. Jay seems to be one of the slowest fan builders on TDE but the entire collective is clearly stacked and they're all super good in their own way. Wrap you ears around it.
